Phu Quoc travel

Phu Quoc travel

Phu Quoc is a supernatural island, arguably has some of most beautiful beaches in Vietnam and some of the best seafood, also abundant with local friendliest people.

Dating on Phu Quoc the pearl island

Seducing with seashores of white fine yellow sand with transparent crystal –like water and primeval forest stretching as far as your eyes can see, Phu Quoc has enchanted me right from the first sight. Besides, the peaceful pace of life and the local people’s as large as generosity the ocean have made tourists attached to it and hesitant to leave.

Travelling to Phu Quoc – new adventure

Instead of taking the direct flight from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city to Phu Quoc, I chose another route longer but more economical by high quality coach from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Tien. After one day exploring the used – to-be spots of attraction of “Ha Tien with ten places of interest”, I took a speedy boat to Phu Quoc island. How lucky we were to have good seats right in the cabin, just behind the driver, where we were free to contemplate splendid Southern sky with myriads of intact and extremely beautiful islands and islets of different sizes.
Only with 1.5 hour gliding speedily on the sea surface, the speed boat has landed to the port Bai Vong. With only one step on the port, you and all the ambiance around are filled with a vastly green color of the sea and sky, which astonished all the tourists. The sky in May is clearly blue and scattering with some masses of cloud floating and wandering with the ocean wind. Mildly shining sunrays, emerald color water washing to purely white shores, faraway whistling singing of birches….all there to bring you relaxing and peaceful feelings.

We chose a small typical resort of 2* lying on Tran Hung Dao street- “a retreat route” of Duong Dong town with myriads of hotels and resorts lying along the shore like holding it to “their arms”. This pretty resort is consisted of many bungalows lying under sky-high shady coconut foliage by an extremely beautiful beach named Duong Dong. The young resort host welcomed us with a friendly smile and enthusiastically showed us to our room even though it’s just over 10am (usual check-in time is by 14pm)
Freely walking with bare feet on the fine sand like sugar, we were suddenly filled with a  very pleasant feeling from the offshore wind making me get better after a long journey. The seawater here is transparantly clear and shining like a giant mirror. My little son of less than 1 year old was excited and ran here and there playing with the seawaves, while adults were indulging themselves satisfactorily in the cool water or excitedly building sand castles…All the daily worries and stress seemed to be washed away with the water.
On the shore, I could see many tourists rushing to Phu Quoc from every corner. There were many families with their kids like mine and many groups of young people. There were especially many foreign tourists, most of them are packbackers from Western countries. The hotel receptionist shared with us that those packbackers prefer to stay in 2* hotels or resorts and retreat for some weeks or even some months. Every day, they just lie on the beach sunbathing, doing massage, swimming, indulging themselves in the water, and…live and breathe with the immense ocean. That is to show how ideal Phu Quoc is!

Fishing journey on Phu Quoc - the paradise island

“If coming to Phu Quoc without going fishing, you miss a most important and interesting part of this island”,  said a friend who lives on this Pearl island I told him that I was coming to this beach paradise.

Friendly fishing tour with Vietravel

Booking for fishing tour at Vietravel Phu Quoc branch, we started our journey exploring the Pearl Island- a fertile region abundant with shrimps and fish. A large and clean boat furnished with a LCD TV, soft and comfortable bench, lifejackets for everyone consoling all the tourists. After more than 1 hour floating on the sea and feeling seasick badly, when the boat anchored at Doi Moi islet, we all got totally awake to see magnificent and dazzling sea in front. Spattered around us are tiny intact islets lying in isolation amid the sea. On the other side is the border between Vietnam and Cambodia, whose Ta Lon mountain can be seen clearly.
After anchoring, the boat “captain” started to instruct people how to lay baits, to control the fishing line and how to pull it back when a fish bites the bait. Very surprisingly, fishing here doesn’t need a fishing rod, but a catgut roll of some tens meters with a piece of fresh squid stuck to the hook. Throwing the line in a second, I have caught a blackish garoupa as big as 4 fingers of mine, which was trying hard to escape. This was such a memorable experience. There were continuously and delightfully admiring sounds when amateur fishermen could catch a fish. Everybody has become “movie stars” when myriads of cameras, Iphone, Ipad aimed to take their pictures. Soon, the small bucket has been cramped with fish jumping in disorder in front of the exciting eyes of the children.

Phu Quoc - the Dai beach

The boat has moored to Dai beach- one of the most beautiful and intact beaches in the world where we relaxed and swam before lunch. The beach here is gently sloping and the water is so clear that we could see almost every single grain of sand, soft to your feet with schools of fish swimming freely around. Along the shore are lines of shady birches whistling their love songs and lullaby those who are bathing or resting in hammocks…It’s hard to find any where else as peaceful as this place.

Phu Quoc – the airport

Phu Quoc airport officially came into operation in 2013 and welcomed many international as well as domestic tourists to come for their visits. At the beginning of 2014, the island residents eagerly welcomed the first ever national powerline from undersea cabling system pulled from Ha Tien town. These 2 important events will promisingly give wings to this Pearl Island to develop faster with its existing potential. Hopefully, this island at this farmost end of the country still remains its intact pearly beauty, whose fine clean sandy shores only imprint travellers’footprint, where you can leave your bikes or motorbikes without being stolen, or shopping freely without being cheated or cut-off…to make Phu Quoc remain a romantic dating venue for sea lovers.
